CULTURAL PROTOCOL

Honor Your Teachers & Respect Each Other

Learning our language is an act of language resurgence and every person is on their own journey in learning and language revival.

Southern Paiute people over the generations survived colonization in the many ways it took form here in Colorado River Basin. Honor that by learning our language & respecting one another's learning journey.

AIYUK: HONORING OUR TEACHERS

A SPECIAL PLACE IN OUR HEARTS

Directors Remembered

The Kaivavich Nung Woo Um Pa Pee language program extend our gratitude to long time language director and teacher, Eileen Posvar ehype. Eileen's teachings and love for her students live on in the program and we are eternally thankful for her work and for that of all those who have directed the program to where it is today.

Aiyuk, Erma.

Brenda Drye ehype made immeasurable contributions to the language program that continue to inform how we function today. Brenda's teachings are intertwined with the legacy of the Kaivaviching'w peoples and language.

Aiyuk, Brenda.

Teachers Remembered

Eileen Posvar ehype, Gevene Savala ehype, and Edna Osife ehype made such a lasting impact on the program. Aiyuk to each of them, for every project the Kaivavich Nung-Woo-Um-Pa-Ha-Pee Language Program had the honor of working with these strong Kaivaviching'w women on.

Aiyuk for your guidance,

Erma, Gevene and Edna ehype.

ELDER LED LESSON PLANNING

Our program gains its direction from the Elder teachers and community language consultants who are dedicated to sharing what they can with our program staff and Kaivaviching'w community. They each contribute invaluable knowledge to our program. Aiyuk.

PROTECTING OUR CULTURAL KNOWLEDGE & INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

Indigenouslanguagedies everytwo weeks

All lesson videos and worksheets are only accessible to approved members of our class. Our Tribe's linguistic knowledge belongs to us and we will remain vigilant in doing our part to protect it.

LEARN AT YOUR OWN PACE

Language lesson videos and worksheets will be posted here regularly for you to follow along at your own pace. We wanted to make sure you can learn on your own time, not on a zoom class schedule.

The language program encourages multigenerational learning opportunities at our events and classes, as well as at home. Learning together is essential to language retention and empowering the next generation to learn as much as they can.
